Biography/ Philosophy of Care
Steven D. Glassman, M.D., is a spine surgeon and orthopedic surgeon with Norton Leatherman Spine. He earned his medical degree from Columbia University College of Physicians and Surgeons, New York, New York. He completed his internship and residency in general surgery at Montefiore Medical Center, and a residency in orthopedic surgery at Columbia-Presbyterian Medical Center, both in New York. Dr. Glassman also completed a fellowship in spine surgery with the Leatherman Spine Fellowship Program in Louisville. He is board certified in orthopedic surgery.
Dr. Glassman also is a professor of orthopedic surgery at the University of Louisville School of Medicine and served as past president of the Scoliosis Research Society.

Dr. Glassman has published on clinical outcomes and cost effectiveness for lumbar spine surgery, in particular examining diagnosis-specific outcomes for fusion, including work on thresholds for clinical significance. He has been investigator in multiple previous multicenter studies, including an ongoing study on adult spinal deformity funded by the National Institutes of Health.

Honors and awards
Dr. Glassman has won numerous honors and awards. In 2024, the American Association of Neurological Surgeons named Steven D. Glassman, M.D., an honorary member. He is the first person to earn the award since 2007. The honor recognized him for his work to pave collaboration among orthopedic surgeons and neurosurgeons.
He was the first orthopedic surgeon to receive the Meritorious Service Award from the American Association of Neurological Surgeons/Congress of Neurological Surgeons joint section on spinal disorders. He has been a multiple-time winner of outstanding paper awards at the Scoliosis Research Society Annual Meeting, North American Spine Society Annual Meeting and the International Meeting on Advanced Spine Techniques.

After all that I've been through with my injury, coming to Norton Spine was a Godsend.
