Riley D Coots, MD

Riley D. Coots, M.D., is an emergency medicine physician with Norton Healthcare. Dr. Coots is trained to manage a wide range of urgent and critical conditions, from stabilizing life-threatening emergencies to treating minor illnesses and injuries. He is passionate about creating calm and clarity for patients during some of their most vulnerable moments.

Dr. Coots earned his medical degree from the University of Kentucky College of Medicine and completed his emergency medicine residency at the University of South Alabama.

His patient care philosophy is centered on empathy and connection: he approaches every patient as if they were a member of his own family, aiming to offer reassurance and comfort when it's needed most.

Outside of work, Dr. Coots enjoys spending time outdoors. During residency, he helped lead a Wilderness Medicine course for medical students that included survival skills training and a multi-day canoe expedition through the Tensaw Delta alongside fellow emergency and family medicine physicians.
